This beautiful Third Model was manufactured in 1870. The highly detailed inhabited scroll engraving incorporates a bald eagle's head on the right side near the back of the frame and a wolf's head on the left sideplate as well as intricate geometric patterns. The engraving patterns are similar to examples pictured in the chapter "Signed Works of John Ulrich" in "Winchester Engraving" by R.L. Wilson, especially number 26484 on page 143 which has the same wolf head design. The left side of upper tang is signed "J.U." for John Ulrich, and the last four digits of the serial number are found in the upper tang mortise and inside the buttplate. In addition, the lower tang is marked "G" and "XXX ." The rifle features a combination globe and blade front sight, notch and folding ladder rear sight, tang peep sight, sling swivels (front absent), and a high grade deluxe walnut stock. Includes the four-piece cleaning rod in the stock.
