OE - GOOD - some minor replacement parts; metal smoothly rusted or lightly pitted in places, cleaned; principal lettering, numerals and design on metal legible; lightly scratched, bruised or minor cracks repaired; in good working order.

Description:

Manufactured 1856 without "COLT'S/PATENT" marking on the left of the frame. The back strap is inscribed "H.F. Austin, Peoria Ill". A possible candidate for the inscription is Henry Austin, listed as a surgeon in the headquarters company of the 13th Illinois Cavalry, whose residence is listed as Princeton, Illinois, only approximately 50 miles from Peoria. There is also a Henry Austin listed in the muster rolls of the 2nd Illinois Light Artillery, which was organized in Peoria. Includes a hardwood case, Dixon & Sons powder flask, Colts Patent dual-cavity bullet mold, and cap tin.
