Description:

Manufactured in the mid-1870s, it is estimated that less than 1,000 of these revolvers were manufactured. Many collectors classify these revolvers as a "Secondary Martial" weapon. The revolver is chambered for the 44 caliber Russian centerfire cartridge. The top of the barrel rib is marked "+FOREHAND & WADSWORTH, WORCESTER, MASS. U.S. PAT.D OCT. 22.61 - JUNE 27 '71 - OCT. 28 '73 +". The serial number is found on the butt, hammer, barrel, cylinder, two places on the cylinder pin assembly and both grip panels. It has pinned blade front (replacement) and frame notch rear sights and nicely figured walnut grips.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The refinished barrel had once been shortened to 6 1/2 inches and later a 1 inch section at the muzzle was added, thus giving the barrel its current length of 7 1/2 inches. The barrel retains 97% of the nickel finish. The remaining metal surfaces retain 60% original nickel finish with the balance a smooth gray patina mixed with some mild flaking. The cylinder pin catch is a replacement. The grips are good with worn edges, a hairline crack on the bottom, some minor pressure dents and a couple small chips at the heel. Mechanically excellent.
