This is one of the approximately 294,000 Model 1895 Muskets sold to the Imperial Russian Government between 1915 and 1916. These muskets were similar to the standard musket, but with a stripper clip guide mounted on top of the receiver, chambered for the 7.62 Russian Nagant cartridge, and bayonet lug. This example was manufactured in 1916. The top of the chamber has the Winchester factory proof over "7.62/M.M.", upper tang has the three-line model/trademark information, and the left side of the receiver has the two-line address/patent marking. The right side of the receiver and buttstock are marked with a Russian inspection stamp. Pinned blade front sight, ladder rear sight graduated to 3,200 meters, full length finger groove forearm, upper handguard and carbine buttplate with compartment (bore brush not included). The buttstock is fitted with a quick release sling swivel. These Russian contract muskets are generally encountered in rough shape with this example being in well above average condition.
Very fine, retaining 70% plus original blue finish with smooth brown patina on the balance. The Russian inspector markings are clear. The wood is also very fine with a stress line at the upper tang, a few minor compression marks and some minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. A truly exceptional Russian contract Winchester Model 1895 Musket.
