Introduced in 1887, the New Model 3 dominated target competitions in the late 1800s. This is a high condition example chambered for one of the rarest calibers in the New Model line, .38 Long Colt, and would be a worthy addition to the most advanced collection. The revolver has the one-line barrel rib address, short cylinder, target sights, S&W medallion checkered grips of nicely figured walnut, and matching serial numbers on the butt, cylinder, barrel latch and barrel. As stated it is chambered in .38 Long Colt, which is among the rarest special order calibers for the New Model No. 3. Although exact production numbers remain unknown, special order calibers were manufactured on a limited basis only, and are some of the most desirable and sought after S&Ws today. Excellent, retaining 97% plus original nickel finish showing extensive scuffs overall, a few lifted pits on the back strap and minor handling marks. 97% plus original case colors remain on the hammer. The replacement grips are also excellent with crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. This New Model No. 3 Target Revolver in extremely rare .38 Long Colt would be difficult to improve upon!
