Built with blued Winchester Proof Steel marked barrels with dual white bead sights on the matted vent rib which is marked "CUSTOM BUILT BY WINCHESTER FOR FRED J. RUSSELL", 3 inch wedges of floral scroll engraving at either breech, chokes marked "IMP CYL"/"MOD", and 3 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to a blued boxlock action which displays beautiful Grand American pattern engraving consisting of near full coverage floral scrollwork surrounding four gold inlaid game scenes. The left side shows a setter in a field scene, the right has a pointer in a field scene, the underside shows a pair of pheasants in a field scene, and a bust of a setter on the triggerguard all rendered in exquisite highly detailed gold inlay. The gun features a gold plated single selective trigger, jeweled flats and watertable, and tang mounted manual safety. The gun is mounted with a beautifully figured and fancy 21-B pattern fleur-de-lis checkered beavertail forend with engraved fittings, rotary latch release, and ebony tip inlay as well as a pistol grip stock with matching fleur-de-lis checkering and engraved, gold inlaid "GRAND/AMERICAN" grip cap, gold inscription oval marked "F/J/R", and leather covered recoil pad. Included is a second matching set of 26 inch barrels with matching engraving and its own beavertail forend and featuring 3 inch chambers and chokes marked "FULL"/"FULL". Also included is a factory letter confirming the above configuration as well as the wood and leather takedown case that houses the entire set (contains snap caps, oiler, and cleaning tools) when the gun was finished on August 16, 1973. Barrel measurements for the extra barrel set (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .617/.617 inches; choke constriction .033/.028 inches; minimum wall thickness .026/.029 inches. Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue and gold finishes with minor handling evidence, a few patches of brown on the forend iron, a few minor scratches on the wood, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent. The extra barrel set is excellent with some brown on the forend iron. The case is excellent. A great chance to own a great example of the Finest shotgun Winchester had to offer!
