Originally manufactured in 1929 as a standard .410 bore Field Grade gun and subsequently upgraded to the current one-of-a-kind configuration by the hands of a highly skilled craftsman. Equipped with blued steel barrels featuring dual bead sights on the smooth flat solid rib, "L. C. SMITH" and ".25-20 WIN, FULTON, N.Y., U.S.A." marked on the right and left respectively, choke constrictions of .027/.029 inches, and 3 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to a vividly case colored sidelock action which displays classic English bouquet and scroll engraving around "L. C. SMITH" signatures on either lockplate. The engraving is signed "ENGR: C. LEE" nest to the triggers. Charles Lee was formerly an engraver for Purdey prior to setting up a shop in California. The gun features double triggers and a tang mounted safety with gold inlaid "S" indicator. The gun is fitted with a beautiful highly figured honey colored and multi-point checkered beavertail forend with engraved shoe and a straight grip stock with blank gold inscription oval and blued steel engraved heel and toe plates around the checkered butt. Included with the gun are three extra barrel sets all marked in the same fashion, one .410 bore set which is numbered to another gun and measures 28 inches and with automatic ejectors and choke constrictions of .007/.023 inches, an unnumbered 26 inch .25-20 Winchester set with extractor and beaded blade and two leaf rear sights, and another rifle barrel set in .32-20 Winchester with the same configuration. Also includes a wood and leather takedown case that houses the entire set, a pair of .410 snap caps, a nickel oiler, and assorted cleaning tools. Stock measurements: 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 inch drop at heel; 14 1/2 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 8 oz.
Exceptionally fine as professionally upgraded, retaining 99% blue and casehardened finishes, minor handling evidence, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent. The extra barrel sets are also all exceptionally fine. The case is very fine. This is a great chance to own a one-of-a-kind double rifle/shotgun!
