Documented Finnish Army Property Marked Mauser C96 Broomhandle Semi-Automatic Pistol, Photographed in "Axis Pistols" by Jan Still

This Mauser C96 Broomhandle pistol features boxed "SA" Finnish Army property stamps located on the left of the chamber and on the right of the frame beneath the frame address. It is one of a number of Broomhandle pistols that were funneled to the successful "white" faction of the Finnish Civil War in early 1918, and these pistols saw continued use between the World Wars for Civil Guard duty, then were relegated to the Finnish Army in late 1939 to early 1940 for use in the Winter War due to a high demand for sidearms, at this time receiving the "SA" Finnish Army stamp, and used throughout the Continuation War between 1941-1944, lending to their scarcity today. This exact pistol is photographed in Jan C. Still's reference book "Axis Pistols" on page 308 (Figure 98). Blade front and 1,000-meter tangent rear sights, with the three-line address on the top chamber flat, "crown/crown/U" proofs on the chamber and bolt, two-line address on the right side of the frame, new safety hammer, slotted back strap, and serrated walnut grips. All matching visible serial numbers including the interiors of both grip panels. The lot is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from noted author Jan C. Still's family verifying it is from his personal collection. Provenance: The Jan Still Luger Collection

ConditionVery fine as Finnish arsenal refurbished, retains 95% dull blue finish with some areas of discoloration. Grips are fine with a faded appearance, likely from period snow use, and a few minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
