Per the Madis serial number data published by Winchester, this rifle is legally an antique. The Winchester Collectors Association indicates the rifle was manufactured in 1899. The top barrel flat is marked with the two-line Winchester address and the caliber marking at the breech. The upper tang is marked with the three-line model, trademark, and patent information, and the serial number is marked on the bottom of the receiver. It is fitted with a combination front sight, an elevation adjustable buckhorn rear sight, and a non-factory added quick-detach sling swivel fitted to the bottom of the stock. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.
Fine, retains 60% of the slightly faded original blue finish, 40% of the original case colors, and traces of original nitre blue on the loading gate with the balance having thinned to a mix of grey and brown patina. The wood is also fine with some scattered minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
