Manufactured circa 1790 -1800, brass mountings including a "S" shaped left side plate, swivel type iron ramrod with a large button tip and full one piece stock with a brass forend cap. Marked "TOWER" vertically at the rear of the lock plate, "crown" ahead of the hammer and crown over "GP" and "V" proofs on the left rear of the barrel. The left stock flat is stamped with a "P" and "7" over "BARNETT / LONDON".
Good. The metal surfaces have a gray patina with scattered minor pitting. The brass has a dark aged patina. The stock is fine with exception of some light sanding in the area of the barrel tang, sharp edges on the flats and a few minor dings and dents. The stamping on the flat is crisp and clear. The action is fine. From the Will Hoffeld Collection.
The lock is marked "W KETLAND / & CO" in front of the hammer, the top of the barrel is spuriously marked "1790 LONDON" (London double stamped), and the left side plate is also spuriously marked "1790". The barrel, hammer, lock plate, frizzen, flash pan, trigger and spring are iron and the remaining parts are brass. Pin fastened one piece full walnut stock with a brass buttcap and oval thumb plate.
Refinished and restamped. All the metal surfaces have been cleaned bright and artificially aged. The brass has an aged patina. The stock has been varnished and remains very good with a small chip behind the hammer, sharp front edges of the flats and a few minor dents and dings. The action is good. From the Will Hoffeld Collection.
