Winchester Third Model 1866 Musket manufactured in 1869. The musket has a round barrel with 3/4 length magazine and three barrel bands. The upper barrel band has a lug for a saber bayonet. The barrel has an iron stud front sight and folding leaf rear sight. Sling swivels are located on the middle barrel band and stock. The stock has a brass, carbine style, buttplate with sliding butt trap. The forearm and stock are oil-finished walnut. The third model brass frame has the serial number, "42310" stamped on the lower tang behind the trigger.
Good as refinished. The barrel and magazine have been cold blued with scattered light pitting. The barrel address and serial number have been re-engraved to make them legible. The original barrel markings have been re-stamped. The rear sight is missing the elevation bar. The brass receiver is in good-very good condition with some discoloration on the left side plate. The side plates do not fit well. There is moderate pitting on toe sides of the loading lever and hammer. The stock and forearm have been lightly sanded and re-varnished and are in very good condition. This is a good, restored example of a scarce Third Model Winchester 1866 Musket.
