Produced after 1883, the advent of the British rifle trials. Dovetailed blade front sight and silver wire inlaid two leaf rear sight, with "HOLLAND & HOLLAND, 98 NEW BOND St LONDON. 295.SEMISMOOTH BORE" marked on the upper right flat and "WINNERS OF ALL THE FIELD RIFLE TRAILS.1883. PATENT/ No 1294" on the upper left. The frame is stamped with a "crown/V" proof on the water table, with side mounted safety switch with inlaid gold "SAFE" marking and scroll engraving. Checkered pistol grip stock, with horn tip, engraved grip cap, ebony inlay in the comb, fancy grain and lightly engraved buttplate.
Very good as professionally refurbished, with 99% of the current blue, showing a few minor handling marks overall. Casehardening and niter blue are both bright and vivid. The refinished stock is very good, showing some light cracks and chips in the forearm and scattered pressure dents. Mechanically excellent.
