This is an example of a standard production 1895 lever action rifle. The top of the barrel has the two line address and is marked "Marlin Firearms Co. New Haven Ct. U.S.A., over the patent dates of Oct. 11, 1887, April 2, 1889 and August 1, 1893," The top rear section of the barrel is marked "40-65" intended to be for the old black powder cartridges. The top of the receiver is marked "MARLIN SAFETY", and the top of the tang is marked "MODEL 1895". The top of the barrel is fitted with a Marbles bead front sight, and a Marbles adjustable rear sight. It has the straight grip walnut stock and forend.

Good as period modified with 20% of a thinning blue finish on the shortened barrel and magazine tube with the receiver and loading lever having only traces of case colors in the very protected areas. The stock and forend are both in very good condition showing more scratches and handling marks on the forend with a slight crack starting at the front end with some sanding towards the rear in front of the receiver. The butt stock is a later Marlin replacement that doesn't fit the metal very well around the rear of the tang/receiver and it has a home made tang screw. Mechanically fine.
