In his included handwritten letter from 1979, noted Sharps historian and author Frank Sellers, stated that this firearm "was shipped as a carbine during the Civil War, afterwards it was converted to cartridge and at a still later date again converted by adding a new barrel," likely done by Meacham Firearms, an American firearms manufacturer in the 1880s.

Rating Definition:

Good overall with barrel retaining original traces of blue finish in protected areas, slight traces of case colors on the receiver, pitting, upper tang drilled and tapped, absent saddle ring, refinished wood. Mechanically excellent.
