Later production rifle produced after 1904 with "SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL" marked on upper left barrel flat. Lyman blade front (missing bead) and sporting type rear sights with the top barrel flat marked with the two line address/patent dates (1887-1893) and "38-55". The sides of the receiver have a custom scroll and punch dot engraving with a stag head in a circle on the left side. Top of receiver is marked "MARLIN SAFETY" with an added engraved embellishment at the rear. Upper tang tapped for sight mounting and marked "MARLIN / 1893". Checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with forend cap and crescent buttplate.

Fine as custom engraved. The barrel and magazine retain 50% of the faded original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina with some minor spotting. The receiver and lever retain 40% of the silvered out case colors with the balance a smooth gray patina. There is some minor pitting on top of the receiver. The wood is very fine with numerous minor dings and scratches with a couple of long hairline stress cracks on the buttstock (left side) and some minor bruising in the checkering. The engraving is clear and crisp. Mechanically excellent.
