Manufactured circa 1882 to 1892. German silver blade front and sporting type rear sights on a 26" barrel with the Third style two line address patent dates "1865-reissue 1880" marking ahead of the rear sight and "40 CAL" at the breech. It is estimated that 277 model 1881s with a 26" barrel were produced. Blue with casehardened receiver, hammer and buttplate. Smooth forearm and straight grip stock with full length magazine tube and steel forend cap. The accompanying Marlin letter verifies serial number "14385" as a Model 1881, 40/60 caliber, 26" barrel and that it was shipped October 18, 1886.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel and magazine retain 70% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The receiver, hammer and lever retain 40% original case colors fading to a silver gray with numerous surface scratches on the receiver (mostly on right side). The buttplate retains traces of original silvered out case colors. There is some scattered minor pitting overall. The forearm is fine with numerous minor handling marks. The buttstock has been refinished and there are three doweled repairs and some minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
