Description:

Manufactured in 1910, this Third Model 1873 rifle was subsequently custom embellished. The finish is a dull blue, almost matte in places. The receiver, top of the dust cover, 4 1/2" of the breech end of the barrel, lower tang and bottom edge of the lever are engraved with floral scroll and punch dot designs. Each side plate has a silver relief deer in a wooded scene. The top barrel flat ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two line address/King's Improvement patent dates and the left rear is marked "38 W.C.F.". The bottom of the cartridge elevator is marked "38 CAL." and the serial number is on the lower tang. Replacement blade front sight, filled block in the rear sight seat and a short range tang mounted peep sight has been installed. Full magazine and mounted with a replacement checkered walnut forearm and factory checkered straight grip stock with a steel crescent buttplate with compartment, (cleaning rod not included). The right side of the stock has a relief carved running deer in a wooded scene.

Rating Definition:

Custom embellished with most of the custom blue remaining, and some minor pitting visible under the finish on the receiver. The stock has been relief engraved on side, refinished and the checkering recut, and it remains very good with a few minor dings and scratches. The forearm shows a few minor dings and handling marks. The markings are clear and the engraving is sharp. The action is very good.
