This Japanese matchlock has an octagon barrel featuring a cannon-type muzzle. Gold inlaid Japanese script along with a silver and gold inlaid pattern is featured on the breech section of the barrel with the silver inlaid pattern extending to the left and right flats. The remaining barrel surfaces show a gold washed engraving. This extensive engraving depicts a dragon. The cannon-type muzzle also features a silver inlaid pattern along with gold highlights. The action components are brass and feature an extensive silver inlaid floral scroll pattern. Mounted on a smooth stock with three mons on the sides of the forearm and a mum behind the barrel.
Very good. The barrel has a smooth gray patina with traces of the gold wash remaining. The front sight is missing. The brass has a smooth untouched aged appearance. The stock is very good with a couple cracks behind the barrel and half of the lacquer remains. The engraving is clear.
