Description:

This Japanese matchlock is 49 3/4 inches in length and has the distinctive stock with short butt. The unique brass Japanese matchlock action has a serpentine that is cocked against an external leaf spring and released by a stud trigger on the lower rear portion of the stock. The flash pan is shielded by a brass cover that is manually rotated to expose the priming powder. The barrel is round with a flat top and flared octagon muzzle with a notched front sight and a raised rear sight (base only). The top of the barrel is stamped with Japanese characters ahead of the rear sight and has a silver inlaid Japanese Mum behind the rear sight. The stock is pinned to the barrel with three pins and "2360" has been scratched into the stock ahead of the flash pan.

Rating Definition:

Good. The barrel has a dark brown patina with some scattered minor oxidation. The brass components have a natural dark aged patina. The stock is also good with a minor 6 inch repaired crack on the upper left side opposite the flash pan, with varnish applied in that area as well. Overall there are some scattered minor dents and scratches. The hammer arm has been solder repaired where it attaches to the lock and reattached with an aluminum rivet. The hammer doesn't hold a cock position. The markings are clear.
