According to the included factory letter, this rifle arrived at the warehouse 21 September 1889, and was shipped on the 23rd, in 45-90 WCF with an octagon barrel and plain trigger. Lyman front sight, with a fixed-leaf rear sight and an added non-factory Lyman 5H receiver peep sight. The barrel is marked with the two line address and patent marks on the upper left flat, along with "45-90 W.C.F", the later post-1905 "WP" proof on the barrel and receiver, "-Model 1886-" on the upper tang and serial number and patent marks on the lower tang. Smooth straight grip stock, with a metal forearm tip, sling eyes, and a smooth curved buttplate.
Very fine as factory rebarreled (see above), with 75% plus of the original blue finish, showing areas of brown and gray patina, bright edge wear, scattered spotting and handling marks. Traces of original case colors are visible on the hammer, with a mixed gray patina on the casehardened parts overall. Stock is fine, with some dark spots and scratches on the otherwise strong varnish, and a few scattered dents. Mechanically functions fine, but action is stiff and locks up while cycling.
