Manufactured in 1895, this Third Model has the distinctive integral dust cover rail machined to the top of the receiver. German silver blade front sight, adjustable buckhorn rear sight and tang mounted short range peep sight, with full length magazine. The top barrel flat is marked with the two line address/patent date marking ahead of the rear sight and "44 W.C.F" at the breech. The serial number appears on the lower tang and "MODEL 1873" flanked by the foliate design on the upper tang. Casehardened lever, trigger, hammer and buttplate, with a blue barrel, magazine and receiver. Smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with forend cap and crescent buttplate with cleaning rod compartment, (rod not included). The accompanying factory letter verifies the rifle configuration, 44 caliber, 26 inch octagon barrel, plain trigger, that it was received in the warehouse on December 2, 1895 and shipped on order number 2284, December 7, 1895.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as professionally restored. The rifle retains 90% blue finish thinning on the magazine and barrel and showing speckled flaking on the receiver. The hammer, lever and buttplate retain 98% case colors. The barrel is a newly manufactured replacement that has been remarked. The wood remains very fine with 8 notches cut into the top of the comb and overall a few minor dings and scratches. The markings are clear. The action is fine. A nicely refurbished Model 1873 rifle.
