Manufactured in 1897. Beach combination front and elevation adjustable rear sights. Two line address on the barrel flat ahead of the rear sight, "44 W.C.F." on the top flat at the breech. Three line upper tang marking and the serial number on the bottom of the receiver. Full magazine tube, blue finish with niter blue receiver screws, trigger, forend cap, magazine band and magazine tube cap assembly and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. The accompanying factory letter states that the serial number was applied on September 22, 1897 and verifies the takedown rifle configuration, caliber, octagon barrel, plain trigger, that it was received in the warehouse on February 17, 1898 and shipped on order number 4496 March 2, 1898.
Custom refinished with almost all of the blue finishes remaining, with some thinning on the barrel and takedown ring and some flaking on the magazine tube band and cap assembly. The stock shows some imperfections under the varnish, (tiny bumps), otherwise only slight handling marks. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
