Introduced circa 1850. Although unmarked, this whaling gun is the unmistakable design of C.G. Brand of Norwich Connecticut. This example has a solid walnut straight grip stock with a smooth iron buttplate which has been observed on early production Brand whaling guns. The part octagon barrel has a bore that measures 7/8 inches and is equipped with fixed sights. The underside of the barrel has a modern replacement brass tipped wooden loading rod.

Fair. The whaling gun has an even, lightly pitted, smooth dark patina overall. The repaired reinforced varnished stock is fair with some minor handling marks (screws added for reinforcement). Mechanically fine.
