Manufactured in 1888. This is a Third Model 1876 rifle with the dust cover rail integrally machined as part of the receiver. Blade front and ladder rear sights with a full length magazine. Top barrel flat is stamped with the two line address/patent marking and "40-60 W.C.F." and upper tang is marked "MODEL 1876" inside brackets. The brass cartridge elevator is marked "40-60" and the lower tang has the serial number. Smooth forearm and straight grip stock with crescent trapdoor buttplate (cleaning rod not included).
About good. The rifle has a mottled gray patina showing some deep pitting. The wood is good with a couple gouges and a number of minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
