Description:

Winchester Model 92 Saddle Ring Carbine manufactured in 1925. The carbine has a special order half-magazine. The round barrel has a block mounted Express style front sight with ivory bead and folding leaf rear sight graduated to "20". A staple-mounted saddle ring is located on the left side of the receiver. The carbine has a full-blue finish. The stock and forearm are straight grain American walnut. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped "-MODEL 92-WINCHESTER-25-20-W.C.F.-/-TRADE MARK-" in two lines below the rear sight. The Winchester oval "W/P" proofmark is stamped on the top of the barrel and receiver. The upper receiver tang is roll-stamped "MODEL 92/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK REG.U.S. PAT. OFF & FGN" in three lines. The serial number "961831" is roll-stamped across the bottom of the receiver. Winchester 92 carbines with any special order features are scarce. Model 92 carbines with factory half-magazines are rare.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The carbine retains 70% of the original blue finish with light-moderate handling wear. The barrel has some edge wear at the muzzle but retains nearly all of the original blue finish. The blue finish on the receiver is thin on contact points and some scuff marks on the left side from contact with the saddle ring. Most of the blue finish is present on the bolt. The hammer and lever have light edge wear. Most of the finish loss is concentrated on the buttplate which has about 40% of the blue finish; the balance is a smooth brown patina. The stock and forearm are both fine overall, most of the original finish is intact and wear is limited to a few minor handling marks. The carbine is in excellent mechanical condition. This is a fine example of a scarce special order Winchester Model 92 carbine.
