Description:

Manufactured in 1886, this is a Third Model 1876 Lever Action rifle with the dust cover guide rail integral to the receiver. Dovetailed blade front sight and adjustable semi buck horn rear sight. The top barrel flat is marked with the two- line address/King's Improvement patent dates ahead of the rear sight and "40-60 W.C.F." at the breech. The bottom of the brass elevator has been stamped "40 - 60". The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1876" flanked by foliate brackets and the serial number is marked on the lower tang. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a steel end cap and steel crescent buttplate with buttstock compartment (cleaning rod not included). The accompanying factory letter verifies the rifle configuration, caliber, octagon barrel and a set trigger at the time it was received in the warehouse on March 25, 1886 and states "Changed to octagon barrel, plain trigger Shipped from warehouse on October 29, 1886, Order number 10308".

Rating Definition:

Good. The metal surfaces have a smooth mottled brown patina. The wood is good with a crack and some chips on the upper left front of the forearm, a 7 inch repaired crack on the upper right side, some gouges and sanding on the revarnished forearm. The stock shows some minor dings and scratches, and has had a coat of varnish applied overall. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
