The original Bronze Bust was sculpted in 1869 by Frederick Volck (German-Confederate American 1833-1891), after Ulysses S. Grant became President. Many were grateful of how Grant treated General Lee and his soldiers at Appomattox. This beautiful recast sculpture was done in the same manner as his previous bust of General Lee. Mounted on an octagonal black marble plinth, it stands approximately 18 inches tall x 12 inches wide x 8 inches deep and weighs 39 pounds.
