Manufactured in 1884, this is a Third Model with the dust cover guide rail integrally machined to the receiver. Blade front sight and adjustable buck horn rear sight. The top barrel flat ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two line address/King's Improvement patent dates and "CAL 40-60" at the breech. The upper tang is marked "{MODEL 1876}" flanked by fancy brackets, the serial number is on the lower tang and the cartridge elevator is marked "40-60". Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with a steel end cap and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate with compartment, (cleaning rod not included).
Very good plus. The rifle has a smooth mottled brown patina with traces of bright original blue finish in the protected areas around the receiver side plates. The lever and buttplate have a dark patina with some minor oxidation on the buttplate. The wood is good with a number of scratches on the stock, and overall minor dings, dents and a few small gouges. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
