Description:

The rifle has a 26-inch full-octagon barrel and full-length magazine. The highly forearm and pistol grip stock are deluxe, fancy grain walnut with Winchester "Style H" checkering and a high polish 'piano' finish. The stock has a casehardened crescent steel buttplate and black, hard rubber pistol grip cap embossed "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO.". The barrel has a special order "Winchester Express" front sight with colored bead and "Winchester Express" rear sight with short, 100, 200 and 300 yard sight leaves with platinum sight lines. A Lyman folding combination rear sight is mounted on the receiver tang. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped "-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-" in two lines ahead of the rear sight. The caliber designation, "30 W.C.F.", is stamped between the rear sight and the receiver. The serial number "24208" is stamped across the bottom of the receiver. The rifle has a blue finish on the barrel, magazine, forearm cap, receiver, bolt and loading gate. The hammer, loading lever and crescent buttplate are color casehardened.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The rifle is all original and retains 85% of the blue and color casehardened finish. Most of the blue finish is present on the barrel and magazine. The barrel markings are sharp. The blue finish is thin and mixed with a plum-colored patina on the contact points of the forearm cap, upper and lower edges of the receiver. Most of the fire blue finish remains on the loading gate. The case colors on the hammer and lever have aged to a mottled brown patina and remain about 80%. The buttplate has a mottled, blue-gray, patina. The highly figured, fancy grain, stock and forearm are in very good overall condition and retain more than 85% of the high polish piano finish. The checkered panels on the stock and forearm show light-moderate handling wear. There are minimal handling marks on the stock and forearm. This is a very fine, original, example of an antique special order Winchester Model 1894 Fancy Lever Action Rifle.
