Description:

This Model 1866 was manufactured in 1869 and subsequently custom embellished in the 20th Century. This rifle features an engraved and silver plated receiver, buttplate and forend cap. The receiver has the likeness of President Abraham Lincoln on the left front with "ABRAHAM LINCOLN" on the right of it and a scene of an Indian and settler fighting toward the rear. Both are amid floral scroll and punch dot engraving. The right side has the same floral scroll and punch dot engraving with a silhouette of a Indian warrior on the right front and a frontiersman on a horse toward the rear. The forend cap and buttplate have a floral scroll and punch dot design. The tangs are engraved with a floral and geometric design. The top barrel flat is marked "HENRY'S PATENT-OCT. 16, 1860/KING'S-PATENT MARCH 29, 1866" directly ahead of the rear sight. The serial number is on the lower tang behind the trigger. The barrel is fitted with a dovetailed blade front and folding ladder rear sights. The rear sight is graduated to 900 yards. The barrel and magazine tube are blue, the hammer and lever casehardened, there is a sling swivel on the forend cap and stock, and it is mounted with a smooth varnished walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a compartment in the stock, (cleaning rod not included).

Rating Definition:

Fine as custom embellished with 90% of the silver plating remaining, some of which has darkened with age. The remaining metal surfaces have a dark mottled patina with some scattered minor pitting on the barrel. The wood is also very good as being freshened with a coat of varnish, showing some scattered minor dents and dings. The engraving is crisp and clear. The barrel marking is clear. The action is fine.
