This rifle was manufactured in 1897 and has the following special order features: short 22 inch octagon barrel; deluxe high grade walnut forearm and semi-pistol grip stock with checkering, Winchester hard rubber grip cap, and steel shotgun buttplate; and three quarter length magazine tube. It has a beaded front sight, rear dovetail filler block in place of the sporting rear sight, and a non-factory installed later production receiver mounted Lyman peep sight. It has the standard early Winchester markings.
Very good as partially refinished (wood). The rifle retains 40% of the original blue finish and has traces of the case colors. The balance has gray and brown patina. There are some minor marks and spots of mild oxidation. The refinished, recheckered wood is very good and has sharp checkering, nice figure, and only minor marks. The action is excellent, and the markings are clear.
