This 44 centerfire converted Model 1866 was originally manufactured in 1872 and is equipped with brass blade front and folding leaf rear sights. The top of the barrel is marked with the two-line address and King's improvement patent dates ahead of the rear sight. The left side of the receiver at the rear has a saddle ring staple with ring. The serial number is stamped on the lower tang just behind the trigger guard. It is mounted on a smooth forearm and straight grip stock featuring a brass crescent buttplate with compartment containing the takedown cleaning rod.
Fair as rechambered to centerfire and fitted with replacement parts (sights and some screws) and equipped with a repaired front barrel band. The brass has an attractive, aged patina with various light scratches and small nicks. The iron has a deep brown patina with some spotting and minor marks. The wood is also fine with some small chips, scrapes and dings along with a small crack in the front of the barrel band and repaired cracks on the butt. The action functions fine and the markings are legible.
