This is an example of a late production Winchester Model 1866 Saddle Ring Carbine that was manufactured in 1890. Fixed front sight integral with barrel band and later production replacement folding two leaf rear sight graduated to 800 yards and marked "1873". The top of the barrel between the barrel band and rear sight is marked with the two-line address/King's improvement patent date and the serial number is marked on the rear of the lower tang. Blue barrel and magazine tube, and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a carbine buttplate. The buttplate has the compartment (cleaning rod not included).

Rating Definition:

Good as refinished with much of the dark blue finish remaining. All metal surfaces, except the receiver have been finished in blue. The magazine tube shows some minor/moderate pitting. There is a small area of moderate pitting on the barrel, and the front barrel band shows some heavy pitting. The receiver has a pleasant aged patina. The wood is fine as being refinished some time ago. There is a minor crack on the underside of the forearm extending from the front to the barrel band. Overall, there are some scattered minor dents, dings and scratches. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
