The factory letter notes that the card records list this gun as "sold from the factory on July 5,1916, as a Model Single Shot #3 Schuetzen Style Rifle .22 Long Rifle caliber." .22 long rifle was less common than .32-40 and .38-55 in the Model 1885 Schuetzen rifles. It has a #3 weight octagon barrel fitted with a windage adjustable globe front sight and a Winchester A5 scope. Marked with the two-line address and patent information along with the caliber designation on the upper left flat and the "WP" proof ahead of the rear scope base (suggests it was shipped with the scope or at least the bases). The second "WP" proof is on the top of the action. The upper tang is fitted with a short range Vernier peep sight. The lower tang has the serial number and an "A" stamp. It has double set triggers in a spurred trigger guard and is fitted with a fancy grain semi-pistol grip buttstock with cheek piece, checkered grip, Winchester hard rubber grip cap, hooked Schuetzen buttplate and a checkered Schnabel tip forearm with ebony insert and palm rest.
Excellent. The rifle retains 98% of the original blue finish with only some light handling and storage marks. The breechblock retains strong case colors. The wood is very fine with crisp checkering, a well executed repair on the forend, and some scattered minor scratches and dings. The action functions excellently as does the scope. The markings are crisp throughout.
