Scarce Nazi Dated Carl Halfar Heer Officers Tropical Field Cap

Developed in 1940 and introduced in 1941, the "tropeneinheitsfeldmuetze" took the basic design of the German mountain cap and made it lighter with a longer visor. Issued for tropical service, the cap is most associated with members of Erwin Rommel's Afrika Korps. Constructed from olive colored cloth, this cap features silver wire trim along the crown and across the front seam, a machine embroidered Nazi eagle above the front seam, and a cockade patch set among a yellow soutache diamond indicating issue to a reconnaissance or signals unit. A pair of alloy grommeted vents are installed on each side, and the red cloth lined interior is marked "Carl/Halfar/Mutzenfabrik/BERLIN/1941" in black ink. A known maker of tropical caps and other Nazi headgear, the Carl Halfar firm was established in 1890.

ConditionVery good, totally original overall. A few light spots are present on the exterior, as well as a dark patch on the right side and some wear on the piping. The interior is very good with some fading of the maker's stamp. The brim shows some folds and creases but is otherwise firm and straight. A fine and scarce tropical field cap.
