Description:The Winchester's first single shot rifles were the first firearms they manufactured based on a John Moses Browning patent and were offered in a wide range of variations and calibers. This example is similar to the "Special Single Shot" variant but does not have checkering or a cheekpiece. It was designed for target shooting using the purpose built .32-40 W.C.F. /Ballard cartridge and has a drift adjustable globe front sight, elevation adjustable rear sight, a short to mid-range Vernier peep sight, close coupled double set triggers, and a smooth semi-pistol grip stock and forearm with ebony inserts and a nickel plated Swiss buttplate. The barrel is #3 weight and has the two line address ahead of the rear sight and the caliber designation at the breech. The lower tang has the serial number and patent marking.
Rating Definition:Very fine. 90% plus of the original blue and nickel finish and 80% original case colors remain. There is some light edge wear and some minor spotting overall. The wood is very fine with light handling and storage marks and a few minor abrasions. The action and set triggers function fine and the markings are crisp.
