Manufactured in 1902, this Third Model Winchester Model 1873 rifle has the dust cover rail integrally machined to the receiver and is chambered for the .22 Long caliber. Winchester sold approximately 19,000 Model 73 rifles in .22 caliber (short and long) from 1884 to 1904. The top barrel flat is marked with the two-line address/King's improvement patent dates ahead of the rear sight and "22 LONG" at the breech. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1873", the serial number is marked on the lower tang and the bottom of the brass cartridge carrier is marked "22 CAL./LONG." Fitted with a blade front sight and elevation adjustable rear sight and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with crescent buttplate.
Fine. The rifle has a smooth brown patina mixed with 30% plus of original blue finish. The wood is very good with some scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
