Manufactured in 1885 and later engraved by Ferlach trained Master Engraver Heide Hiptmayer in 1973. Blade front and two folding leaf rear sights on a barrel marked with the two-line address-patent information on top and featuring engraved scrollwork at the breech and around the front sight at the top. Engraved scrollwork also appears on the receiver, dust cover, brass cartridge elevator and carbine buttplate. The sides of the receiver feature game scene engraved panels and engraved borders which include scallops, double lines and single lines. An elk in a mountain scene is on the left side, and a male lion in the field is on the right side. The Third Model dust cover guide has a leaf engraving. The dust cover has rear serrations. The left side of the receiver has a saddle ring staple (the ring is now absent). The lower tang has the serial number inside an engraved border behind the lever and is signed by the engraver ("Engraved/by/Heide Hiptmayer/1973") behind the trigger. The buttplate has a compartment with the brass sliding door that is also engraved (no cleaning rod). The receiver and buttplate are bright and the remaining metal surfaces are blue. Mounted with a multi-point checkered forearm and straight grip stock.
Fine as custom embellished by Master Engraver Heide Hiptmayer. The carbine retains most of the custom blue finish showing some high spot wear. There are a couple areas of light pitting. The remaining metal surfaces are taking on an aged patina. The refinished wood is very good showing putty filled blemishes, a series of minor pressure dents on the underside of the buttstock, a couple hairline cracks on the wrist, a few minor handling marks and overall crisp checkering with most of the finish remaining. Mechanically excellent.
