Manufactured in 1897, and subsequently factory reworked, chambered for the .30-40 Krag/.30 Army/.30 U.S. cartridge and equipped with a pinned blade front sight, Marble's folding leaf rear sight, Lyman receiver mounted peep sight, and checkered straight grip stock and forearm with ebony Schnabel tip insert and crescent buttplate. The extra length barrel has the two line nickel steel marking on the left and "30 U.S." at the breech. A Winchester factory oval proof is stamped on top of the barrel and receiver at the breech indicating that the rifle was returned to the factory in the 20th century. The Winchester address and patent marking is on the left side of the receiver. The upper tang has the two-line model designation, and the serial number is on the lower tang. Sling swivel eyelets are mounted on the barrel and buttstock.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as factory refurbished (see above). The rifle retains 70% factory blue finish with a smooth gray patina on the balance. There is some light pitting on the right side of the receiver. The upgraded checkered wood is fine with some scattered blemishes in the checkering and some minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
