This is a nice example of a very early three digit serial number Winchester Model 21 shotgun manufactured circa 1930-31. Bead sights on the concave matte solid rib. 2-3/4 inch chambers with extractors and choked full/modified. The top of the right barrel at the breech is marked with the model, maker, gauge and trade mark information and the two line address on the top left. The water table is marked with a single Winchester oval proof. Two Winchester oval proofs are marked on the barrel flats as well as the matching serial number. The Winchester Proof Steel barrels are marked "FULL" on the left side and "MOD" on the right. Double triggers, tang mounted automatic safety mounted with fancy grain checkered splinter forearm and pistol grip stock with a plastic serrated shotgun buttplate and "HJM" monogrammed gold initial oval. The barrel and stock measurements are: wall thickness at 9 inches from breech .730/.730 inch; wall thickness at 9 inches from breech .05/.05 inch; drop at comb 1 3/8 inches; drop at heel 2 1/2 inches; length of pull 14 3/8 inches; weight 7 Lbs 10 Oz.
Very fine. The barrels retain 75% thinning original blue finish with smooth gray and brown patina on the balance. The remaining metal surfaces retain 90% original blue finish with some normal handling and edge wear. The wood is very fine with some pressure dents and handling marks. The checkering remains crisp. The markings are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent.
