Manufactured in 1890. The accompanying factory letter lists this rifle with a half octagon barrel in .38-56 WCF, plain trigger and checkered pistol grip stock when it was received in the warehouse on May 2, 1890, and shipped the same day. The barrel has dovetailed blade and elevation adjustable sights and is marked with the two-line address ahead of the rear sight and "35-56 WCF" at the breech. A folding peep sight is mounted on the upper tang. The lower tang has the two-line patent dates and the serial number. The barrel, magazine and bolt are blue, and the remaining surfaces are casehardened. The highly figured and checkered pistol grip stock has an ebony insert in the grip and a solid crescent buttplate. The lower tang is marked "295XX," the stock inlet is marked "295," and the buttplate is unmarked.

Fine. The barrel, magazine and bolt retain 50% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The remaining surfaces also retain 50% original case colors. The refinished wood is also fine showing a barely noticeable repair in the wrist, limited minor handling marks and overall crisp recut checkering. Mechanically excellent.
