Manufactured in 1881 with 28 inch octagon barrel. The accompanying lists this rifle with an octagon barrel and plain trigger when it was received in the warehouse on July 12, 1881 and shipped the same day with 39 other arms. This is a second model with the dust cover guide featuring two screws. The dust cover has serrated rear edges. Blade front and ladder rear sight on a barrel marked with the two-line address patent dates, and the upper tang marked "MODEL 1876." The rifle lacks caliber markings. The buttstock has a trapdoor crescent buttplate (cleaning rod not included).
Very good plus. The rifle retains streaks of original blue finish on the barrel and magazine and traces of blue finish in the protected areas of the receiver with the balance smooth brown patina. There is a series of tool-like markings on the muzzle end of the magazine. The wood is very good showing a hairline crack along the grain (forearm) and some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
