This is a fine WWII production Winchester Model 97 Riot shotgun that falls into the noted serial number range (E910000 to E960000), for WWII Winchester shotguns. It has the correct U.S. proof and acceptance marks on the receiver with a correct U.S. cartouched buttstock. The left side of the 20 1/2 inch barrel is marked "MODEL 97-WINCHESTER-12 GA, followed by "2 3/4 CHAM./CYL." with the two line address/patent marking on the right. It is fitted with the early six-hole pattern bayonet lug/heat shield. The receiver and barrel have the Winchester factory circled "WP" proofs with a small Ordnance Shell and Flame inspection stamp on top of the barrel. The left side of the barrel is roll stamped with the "U.S." followed by the Ordnance Shell and Flame inspection proof. The left side of the buttstock is also stamped with a boxed "G.H.D." over the Cross-Cannon Ordnance proof. The stock is also stamped with a secondary boxed "S.S.A.A" reinspection proof with a secondary boxed "P" firing proof stamp on the flat of the pistol grip. The left side of the buttstock has a Police property white painted markings of "PPD 22" (maybe Philadelphia Police Dept?) . The buttstock is fitted with a military sling swivel on the rear underside area with the bail front sling swivel on the rear of the bayonet lug and it is fitted with a black plastic checkered Winchester marked buttplate. It has a grooved walnut pump handle. Length of pull is 13 1/2 inches. It is complete with a commercial leather sling.

Fine with 85% plus original blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear with blue loss on the magazine tube and pump handle from cycling the action with some small nicks on the left side at the takedown mechanism. The top and rear sides of the replacement bayonet lug shows considerable small pin-prick type pitting under the blue finish. The buttstock is in very good condition with clear, distinct cartouches and proofs, however it shows numerous small pressure dents, dings and scratches on the sides. The bayonet retains 90% of its arsenal reparkerized metal finish with the scabbard painted black.
