Description:

Like this Model 1873 carbine, most of the early trapdoor carbines saw extensive use on the Great Plains or in the Southwest during the Indian Wars. Custer's men were armed with Model 1873s when they were annihilated near the Little Bighorn River, though this example's serial number falls after those generally attributed to the 7th Cavalry. This example has the standard Model 1873 markings and features including the distinctive high arch breechblock. Subsequently refurbished with an M1879 sight. There is also a "K.L." and three notches carved in the right side of the buttstock.

Rating Definition:

Good, retains 25% arsenal refurbished blue finish and some remnants of original case colors and patterns with the balance a smooth grey patina. The last digit of the serial number is partially obscured by a ding. The sanded and re-oiled wood is also good with few scattered minor dings and scratches, and faint cartouches. Mechanically excellent.
