Description:

These rifles saw extensive use throughout the British Empire, seeing action in almost every colonial war of the Victorian period including the Second Anglo-Afghan War and the Anglo-Zulu War. This example is marked with Queen Victoria's cypher, "ENFIELD/1873", and struck with British War Department ownership mark and Mark designation "I" on the right side of the action. There are various British military proofs on the upper left of the breech and action as well as inspection marks on various small parts. There is an Enfield cartouche stamped on the right side of the buttstock. Includes an ill-fitting socket bayonet marked "R/WD proof/475" with leather sheath, a leather sling, oiler bottle, multitool, bore inspection mirror, and a package of 10 cartridges. It is very rare to find an unmodified Mk I Martini Henry, especially with this level of condition and finish.

Rating Definition:

Very good, retains 50% blue finish with the balance a smooth grey patina and some scattered light pitting. The wood is fine with numerous minor dings, dents, and scratches, some minor chipping along the cleaning rod channel, and a clear cartouche. Mechanically excellent. The bayonet is very fine showing most of the blue and bright finish with some scattered grey patina and the sheath is very good with some mild wear and aged patina on the brass.
