This is a beautiful example of a historic seven shot prototype "Baby Luger" pistol. These have always been highly sought after by Luger collectors because of their uniqueness and association with Georg Luger, even more so with this particular pistol. This luger is well documented as having been built for Georg Luger for his personal use; see "Lugers at Random" page 90 and "Luger: The Multi-National Pistol" page 58. This rare pistol has the correct letter "B" suffix in the serial number, denoting it as a prototype serial number range along with the rare intertwined "GL" initial of Georg Luger on the rear toggle. The "GL" indicates this Luger was made under the direct supervision of Georg Luger. This is one of three original 7-shot "Baby Lugers" that are known to exist in the world today, with this example possibly being the only known example with a 3 1/4 inch length barrel. To shorten the overall length of the frame, the original grip straps were cut in two at the DWM factory and then brazed back together. This extensive of a frame and magazine modification is why these pistols were personally modified under the direct supervision of Georg Luger. Unlike some of the other Baby Lugers, this example had newly manufactured walnut grips installed that were not sliced together. The workmanship on both areas is exceptional as only could be performed by the DWM factory. It has a blank chamber area and a "DWM" monogram on the front toggle. The full serial number is stamped on the front of the frame and underside of the barrel; with the last two digits of the serial number "77" stamped on the recoil lug, side plate, breech block and complete toggle train. The takedown lever is not numbered. The walnut grips and wooden base on the magazine are unnumbered. This exceptional rare Luger is fitted with a modified luger magazine converting it into a functional "7-Shot" magazine. This Luger is such a historically significant example of a rare 7-shot "Baby Luger" pistol that is pictured in "Luger The Multi-National Pistol" by Kenyon on pages 58-59, "World of Lugers" by Costanzo pg. 63 and is pictured and described in "Lugers at Random" by Kenyon pages 90-91 and "Lugers of Ralph Shattuck" by Keep. Writer is very familiar with this truly historical and extremely rare prototype Luger pistol and believes it to be next in line of importance to the 45 Luger.

Exceptionally fine overall with 85% of the original blue finish still remaining, wear on the edges and high spots overall , blue loss on the front frame rails and side plate hump, and the rear grip strap showing a gray patina on the lower half. The various smaller parts retain 40% of their original straw colors. The grips also in very fine condition overall with distinct checkering on both sides showing light wear across the tops of the checkering mixed with some very minor handling marks from carrying. An extremely rare, possibly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a significant and historic Luger: Georg Luger's Luger!
