Description:This revolver has an early serial number indicating manufacture in 1878. The top of the barrel has the slightly longer, two-line markings of 'COLTS' PT. F.A. MFG. Co./HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A.," and the side of the barrel is marked with the rare and desirable "COLT D. A.38" etched panel marking. The left side of the frame has the standard Colt three-line patent marking, and the rear of the trigger guard is marked ".38 CAL". The revolver has a nickel plated primary finish and niter blue hammer, trigger, action screws and cylinder pin. It is fitted with a checkered hard rubber grip with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the top of each side. It is correctly marked with the matching serial number on the frame, trigger guard and back strap, and the back of the cylinder is numbered "55".
Rating Definition:Fine with 60% of the original nickel plated finish on most of the revolver, 20% of the nickel plated finish mostly in the flutes and protected areas of the replacement cylinder, and some minor loss at some the edges. The grips are in very fine condition with nice distinct checkering and Colt markings. Mechanically fine.
