With over 5,000,000 1894's manufactured over 112 years, this rifle, serial number 180157 reigns supreme as the finest known deluxe rifle that we are aware of to date. Manufactured in 1899 per George Madis' serial number range. The accompanying factory letter lists this phenomenal Model 1894 rifle with an octagon barrel in .desirable 38-55 caliber, plain trigger, and checkered pistol grip stock when received in the warehouse on July 20, 1903 and shipped on July 21. The top barrel flat is stamped with the two-line address/patent date ahead of the rear sight and "38-55" at the breech. The three-line model/trademark/patent date marking is stamped on the upper tang, and serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. The left sides of the upper and lower tangs are marked "16931 X", with the assembly number "16931" also on the inside of the buttplate and the stock under the buttplate. The rifle is fitted with dovetailed German silver blade front and elevation adjustable buckhorn rear sights. The hammer, lever and buttplate are casehardened, the loading gate is nitre blue and the remaining surfaces are blue. Mounted with a finely figured, "H" style checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock featuring a hard rubber Winchester grip cap and crescent buttplate.
