Description:

Offered here is a beautifully engraved American Standard Tool Co. .22 caliber revolver, among the finest decorated 19th century pocket revolvers known to exist and almost certainly executed by the hand of the master engraver of the period, L. D. Nimschke, obviously for exhibition purposes. The near full coverage engraving consists of floral scrollwork on a punch dot background. Even the hammer features engraved motifs. The scrollwork on the back strap and butt surround a blank oval panel. A leaf engraved motif appears on the upper and lower left and right barrel flats and the top of the hammer. An engraved band appears on the barrel at the muzzle. The barrel rib is marked "AMERICAN STANDARD TOOL Co. NEWARK N.J." inside a simple panel featuring a simple floral motif at the breech. The cylinder has a wide engraved band at the front and a star between each stop notch. The remainder of the cylinder is covered with scrollwork. The barrel and cylinder are blue. The hammer and trigger are casehardened and the frame is gold plated. Fitted with pearl grips with star-point escutcheons. The matching serial numbers are found on the left side of the grip frame, barrel and rear face of the cylinder. Both grip panels are also numbered to the gun.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The barrel retains 85% of the blue original finish and traces of blue finish remaining on the cylinder with the balance a smooth blended patina. The frame retains 98% of the gold plating. The grips are near excellent with a tiny missing chip near the top (left panel) and have a highly attractive color. Mechanically excellent.
