While the Model 1849 Pocket was the most popular of all of Colt's revolvers in the United States in the 19th century, this model was produced and sold in more limited numbers from Colt's London factory; only around 11,000 were manufactured in London compared to around 42,000 of the London Navy revolvers. The London Model 1849 Pockets are thus considerably rarer than the Hartford manufactured Pocket revolvers. This revolver was manufactured in 1855 and has a small cone front sight, "{ADDRESS COL: COLT/LONDON.}" on top of the barrel, London proofs, "COLTS/PATENT" on the left side of the frame, standard stagecoach scene on the five-shot cylinder, the rounded screws common on London Colts, and all matching serial numbers. The case has blue lining, an L-shaped combination tool, Colt's patent dual cavity bullet mold, cartridge pack, two Eley cap tins, bag shaped James Dixon & Sons flask, and some balls and bullets.
Fine. 70% plus original silver plating remains on the grip frame, and the silver has taken on an attractive aged patina. The frame, hammer, and trigger guard retain 85% plus original case colors. The barrel and cylinder retain 40% original blue and display gray and brown patina on the balance. The steel has some light oxidation and pitting. The markings remain distinct aside from the lightly struck "S" on the patent marking. The grip is very fine and has strong original varnish, minor edge wear, and minor handling and storage marks. Mechanically fine. The revarnished case and accessories are fine and have mild age and storage related wear. The case has an absent keyhole escutcheon, and the mold retains 40% of the bright original blue finish and has a series of battering marks/dings on each side. The flask has several dents and is missing the spring for the lever. This is a very attractive London '49 Pocket revolver complete with a case and accessories.
